American Woodcock, Scolopax minor
A lesser known upland game bird of the Northeast, the Woodcock is a beautiful little bird. Everything about this creature is unique-- they sit on the forest floor silently, blending in with their camouflage until you are almost on top of them, then they burst into the air with an uncanny whistling sound, only to land on the ground and hide again. Their looks are equally special with their long beak and partridge-like plumage.
